The Detailed, 15 Days, 14 Nights Kenya Safari for Senior Citizens Itinerary
Elderly tourists traveling on our African safaris for seniors get personalized attention with a stay in the best lodges and camps in Kenya. We also provide them with flexible game drives to suit their needs.
What can you expect when you book our African tours for seniors? Here is the detailed 15 Days, 14 Nights safari for seniors.
Day 1: Pickup from JKIA & Transfer to Nairobi Hotel
Your private safari director will welcome you with a big Kenyan smile. We arrive at the airport one hour to your scheduled arrival time, just so you can be sure there is a friend waiting for you.
After formally welcoming you, we will drive you from the airport to your chosen Nairobi hotel. You will this home for the next few days as you start your adventure in Kenya. We will leave you to relax, rejuvenate, and prepare for the real adventure which commences the following day.
Your day 1 is also a great time to try out various local delicacies and drinks. We recommend Kienyeji (the flagship Kikuyu meal) or Nyama Choma (grilled meat). For a drink, we suggest Tusker, the most popular beer in Kenya.
Day 2: Mid-Morning at David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage & Afternoon at Giraffe Center
Today, we will let you wake up late and spend the morning at the hotel. The adventure doesn’t start until 11 am when you will visit David Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage and later Giraffe Center.
Your African safari tours for seniors begin with a 60 minutes visit to the elephant orphanage. The center rescues young elephants and rhinos, primarily victims of poaching and nature, and takes care of them.
They are later reintegrated with their cousins in the Tsavo National Park and Mwea National Park once they get strong and healthy. The orphanage offers you the one of a kind opportunity to not only interact with these beautiful creatures but also learn how evil poaching is.
It takes you through an emotional rollercoaster. One minute you marvel at the mind-blowing sights of the caregivers feeding the elephants; the next, you’re all emotional from the sad tales of how the chubby babies got to the orphanage in the first place.
Seeing the little lovelies drink their milk, take baths, and play in the mud will melt your heart into a puddle. It’s the best safari experience.
After 1-hr here, you will head to the hotel for lunch and relax for a while before heading to the Giraffe Center in the afternoon.
The center was commenced in 1979 by Jock Leslie-Melville, a Kenyan citizen from Britain, and his American wife, Betty Leslie-Melville. The center was built to conserve Rothschild Giraffe whose numbers were dwindling due to loss of habitat in western Kenya.
At the time when the two answered the call of nature, there were not more than 130 Rothschild Giraffes in Kenya. Today, thanks to their effort, there are more than 300 Rothschild Giraffe. The center has become popular as one of the best nature education center in the world.
How would you like to have breakfast with a really tall friend? The Rothschild giraffes reside here and they love human company and the treats they come bearing. This is all possible with our senior travel tours.
They will pop their head into the restaurant to say hi and to check out the treats you have brought them before sauntering off to the sanctuary. At the Giraffe Center, you will get up close with these tall boys.
You will pet, hand-feed, and get a chance to kiss a tall, tall friend. A trip to this wildlife haven is one you will remember for a long time. You will also be able to join the course by donating directly to the center.
There is also a curio shop, run by this non-profit organization, where you can shop for souvenirs. After this safari, our professional safari guide will take you to the hotel for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 3: Learn Some Art at Nairobi Art Center, Lunch at Carnivore Restaurant, & Yoga at African Yoga Project
On day 3 of our best Kenya safari for seniors, we break the monotony of wildlife viewing. The plan is to visit the Nairobi Arts Center. The center commits to providing crafts, design, innovative visual art, and more to learners of different abilities. Here you will enroll in adult classes ranging from art, pottery, mosaic, mandala drawing, and private art therapy.
You will take a 10 am-1 pm class (whichever you prefer) and then head for lunch at the enchanting Carnivore Restaurant. The restaurant is known for meats. You can take pork, rump of beef, leg of lamb, spare ribs, rack of lamb, sirloin, ostrich, and crocodile meat.
The meat is roasted in a traditional Maasai sword over a charcoal pit at the restaurant entrance. There is a veg diet for the vegetarian, and it is an-all-you can eat event. The food spots come when you wave the white flag.
Don’t fail to experience the cocktail called “Dawa,” a magic or medicine potion in Swahili. The afternoon will see you relax at African Yoga Project. The project expands employability, elevates, empowers, and educates the youth in Africa using practical yoga.
It helps create opportunities for the young and make them better leaders. You can get involved in this project by providing mentorship, fundraising, or service trips. Take part in a class during your visit.
Day 4: Village Market, Transfer to Naivasha, & Boat Ride at Lake Naivasha (Walking Safari at Crescent Island)
Today is your last day at Kenya’s capital. You will start the day with breakfast and head to the village market. Here you will get a chance to shop and indulge in meals from several cultures. You’ll also meet lots of interesting people here.
From here, you will get a transfer to Naivasha. You will make a stopover at the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint when heading to Naivasha, about 1.5hrs from Nairobi. The Rift Valley is a 7,000 km long continuous geographic trench from Lebanon to Mozambique.
It contains a series of bluffs, which can be seen from this viewpoint. It will also be an opportunity to take amazing pictures with the Great Rift Valley as your backdrop. Enjoy the view before heading to the Naivasha hotel for check-in and lunch.
The afternoon will see you visit Lake Naivasha. The most popular attraction at Lake Naivasha is the chance to take a guided boat safari out onto the water. Dead trees reach out of the cool blue water like grasping hands as a vast assortment of birdlife moves about.
Everything from pelicans to cranes to smaller, brightly colored birds is displayed. The waters are home to wallowing hippopotamuses, and you will spot herbivores along the shores.
A visit to the Crescent Island Sanctuary is easily combined with a boat safari. It provides a rare chance to walk with the animals literally. The island sanctuary isn’t home to any predators, so you can safely trade the safari car for your own two feet as you wander alongside zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest.
Day 5: Optional Cycling and Walking Safari at Hell’s Gate National Park
Today you have a 40 minutes drive from Naivasha to Hell’s Gate National Park for bike riding and walking safaris. The park has some hiking trails you can hit if you are up to it, but this part is optional.
The park is the only one in Kenya where you can get out of the safari vehicle and literally walk or cycle among the animals. Popular residents that you might come across in Hell’s Gate National Park include Hartebeest, Grant, and Thomson gazelles.
You might also come across warthogs, monkeys, impala, Burchell zebra, defassa waterbucks, giraffes, black-backed jackals and olive baboons. The Park is home to move than 100 bird species and a popular mounting climbing destination.
Later, you go to Olkaria Geothermal natural spa for a –one-of-a-kind treatment. The pool is steaming but the water is just the right temperature, thanks to the cooled steam coming through pipes.
You will spend the better part of the day here as there is no rush to get back to the hotel.
Day 6: Transfer to Masai Mara & Visit a Maasai Village
Dream of the best trips for seniors over 60, and chances are you will dream of Masai Mara. The park is the most popular in Africa and has been voted Africa’s Leading National Park for six years in a row since 2014.
It has the highest concentration of wildlife in Kenya and Africa at large. Masai Mara National Reserve is home to one of the 8 wonders of the world, the Great wildbeest Migration. The reserve is also home to all the big 5.
Your driver will be at your door by 7 pm, ready to drive you for 6 hours to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will make a stopover at Narok town, about 3-hrs from Mara, to stretch your legs.
On Arrival, the safari guide will leave you to take lunch and rest for a few hours before heading to a Maasai village. In the afternoon, you head to a nearby Maasai village to see their way of life and interact with them.
You will also get to learn more about their projects that are geared towards improving the lives of nearby communities. They sell artifacts too, this a great opportunity to buy some souvenirs.
Day 7 & 8: Morning and Afternoon Game Drive at Masai Mara National Reserve
The morning game drives at Masai Mara start at dawn to around 10 am. The aim to catch the wild animals as they wake up and move in search of food. Early morning is when the predators are serious about hunting, just before it gets too hot for them to be out in the sun. You will catch all the action before heading back for lunch and rest.
In the afternoon, you embark on another game drive of the senior citizen trips, and this one is even more fun as lots of animals come out in the late afternoon. This is the perfect time as most will look for meals before the sun goes down.
Also, elephants will usually start making their way back home about this time.
Day 9: Optional Hot Air Balloon followed by Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Bird Walking Safari
Today’s morning drive will not be on a safari vehicle but rather a hot-air balloon that gives you the best view of the entire reserve. It is even better during the annual wildebeest migration that takes place between July and October, as you get to see the action from a bird’s eye-view.
The ride is only an hour or so, and then you take a bush breakfast with champagne. After breakfast, you will enjoy a morning game drive as you head to the camp for rest.
The day is not over as you have a walking safari around the camp to look for birds. Masai Mara is know for its wide collection of birds, and this is the opportunity to view them.
Day 10: Check-Out & Flight from Masai Mara to Diani Beach
You can start the morning with a game drive at Masai Mara National Reserve. Later, at 11 am, you will catch a flight from Masai Mara to Diani Beach. You will meet our Diani team waiting for you to transfer you to the hotel.

Other animals you will see here include monkeys, buffaloes, elands, tortoises, antelopes, reptiles, and birds.
Day 12: Optional Wasini Day Trip – Slave Cave, Salling on Dhow, Snorkeling, Wasini Village, & Coral Garden
Today will be another exciting day at Wasini Beach. Our guide will pick you up immediately after breakfast at around 7.45 am. Your first stop will be Shimoni Slave Caves, where a local guide will take you through the history of the caves where enslaved people were kept.
Afterward, you will head to Shimoni piers and board a traditional Swahili Dhow for a cruise to the Marine Park. On board, you will get drinks such as coffee to keep you alert, as you will have around a 90% chance of spotting dolphins.
You will also be able to snorkel and marvel at the rich marine life. You will receive masks, snorkels, and a certified and experienced guide. You don’t have to worry if it’s your first time, as assistance is provided to first-timers to ensure they are safe.

Alternatively, you can prefer to relax by the sea and enjoy the breeze. The day’s activities will halt at 5.00 pm when you head to the hotel.
Day 13 & 14: Relax at Diani Beach/Hotel
You will spend the next two days at one of the best beaches in the world, Diani Beach. The beach was voted Africa’s leading beach for five years from 2015. The beach is about 17km long from Kongo River to the north and Galu beach to the south. It’s located approximately 30 kilometers south of Mombasa, in Kwale County.
Diana Beach’s general area is known for coral reefs, black and white colobus monkeys, and nearby Shimba Hills National Reserve. Some popular activities at Diani Beach include jet skiing, snorkeling, kitesurfing, scuba diving, paddle boarding, and sunbathing.
